It recently came to me that alot of people who never had any interest in politics before this past presidental election for some reason became interested. People who either never believed in or had any thought that the political process was for them caught a spark somewhere along this election. Was it because of race or ideals? Did people become involved because they truly believed in Obama or truly against the Republicans taking office, or both? I’m asking you the same question I asked myself, what made you become involved? Or what made you stay away? Did you feel empowered when he won? Like your vote finally counted? Tell me what you felt.
Once again the news started its mislead machine attempting to place President Obama’s executive order to close Guantanamo Bay (GITMO) within one year and the terrorist Said Ali al-Shihri rising to power after being released in 2007 by President Bush. It’s true, in some articles they explain that Shihri was captured, interrogated, imprisoned and eventually released in 2007. The headlines and the direction that many of the stories went, attempted to make the casual glancing reader believe that Obama was directly responsible. I can say that I myself at first glance thought that Obama’s order had something to do with it, but I found more articles that explained things further. I know that some people will only see the headlines or the bad articles and that’s what bothers me.

Today I cried, i cried not just for our past and our present but for my children and my children’s children knowing that they have the true opportunity to be whatever they what to be in this country. I cried because I understood a dream once thought of as only a fanatasy became reality. I understood the great significage of Barack Obama becoming the first African American President to lead the United States, a country based off of freedom and indepence that even to this day attempts to hinder a major portion of it’s population because of their skin color. I understood that people realize that the doors have been opened and things will never be the same again. I realized that some people are starting to understand the wrongs of the past, and maybe this wil help them step forward and step up to understand how to correct the future. I think that’s what brought tears to my eyes, realizing that people can change, the country has changed, we as people are changing. Thank You America for realizing change is needed. Congratulations Mr. President.
