Response to I Pledge Allegiance… A Work In Progress

January 1st, 2009 No comments

I found this interesting post about the evolution of

the pledge of allegiance. As I read it I couldn’t help

but think how this displayed the further indoctrination into

“Americanism” that displayed separatist values and instills

superiority complexes. Why I say this? The inclusion of “to” changed the idea of what you were pledging allegiance to.” The republic” would be the democratic system that America uses, When “to the republic” is used it give the impression that you are pledging allegiance to the land itself.

Next, when you look at the time period (1923) change from “my flag” to “the Flag of the United States of America” The term American was becoming more synonymous with White, Christian than all inclusive and I believe that this change was a significant one that reinforces this ideology. Think about it you are American if you live in America and you’re treated like Americans are treated then you would find nothing wrong with loving your country, but when you live somewhere that constantly abuses you, consistently tells you that you aren’t good enough then what do you expect?

Then, they add “under God” which we all know what God that is, and since there is such national preference then it creates a national intolerance toward other religious views. Another catalyst to create separatist values.

The last revision is one of a comical nature but actually demonstrates the true nature of the bureaucratic hegemonic system that keeps brown down. Then they just say we are treated like this because we act “Un-American”, ask yourself what is American?
